Tornado Relief Effort
Kevin Derryberry Ministries wishes to send it’s deepest prayers to the people effected by the tornadoes that devastated Alabama and the region on April 27th. We have joined with numerous others to help bring relief to thousands who are in desperate immediate need. We have helped in the areas of Hackleburg AL, Pratt City AL, and Cordova AL, and still there is so much more to do there and all over the region.
Friday the 29th we gathered clothes, stuffed animals, and toys for Help for Hackleburg.
Saturday the 30th in Pratt City we handed out cold apples and oranges along with diapers, feminine needs, bags of ice, wipes paper towels, garbage bags, donated food, bibles and devotionals all while encouraging and praying with the individuals we would meet.
Sunday the 1st we sent some staff and volunteers to distribution centers to help sort and organize and some joined with a group headed to Cordova AL where we handed out cold apples and oranges along with bags of ice, wipes paper towels, garbage bags, donated food, bibles and devotionals all while encouraging and praying with the individuals we would meet. While in Cordova we helped a family who escaped 2 tornadoes that ripped down trees all around their yards none hitting their house only to later have their house burn from a fire started by a generator they were using to keep food in the refrigerator from spoiling. We removed what was left of the furniture in their house and loaded trailers carrying it away to storage. Also on Sunday we were directed to a home that had received no help yet. There we met a family who had lost everything but life. Small children playing in a yard filled with rubble left behind by these killer tornadoes. We helped them move what was left of their belongings into a uhaul and ministered to the family with prayers fresh fruit and wipes, bibles and devotions.
We want to thank all our volunteers and supporters for helping to make it possible for us to go and minister to the needs of so many. We would like to thank our friend James Spann for his help in getting us to very remote places in Walker County along with the team of men and women from Westwood Baptist Church in Alabaster and Double Oak Community Church. This recovery is far from over. We will continue to go as God leads us to go. You can help us to help other first by praying for God to guide us to the places He desires to use us. Pray for wisdom and discernment to love and minister to all He leads us to. Your prayers back with contributions will help to move mountains in the lives of those effected by this catastrophic event. Remember to pray for all those recovering.
The Kevin Derryberry Band on the Rick and Bubba Show
Since the early days of Kevin’s rock band era, Kevin, Rick and Greg Burgess have been friends. Kevin made frequent visits to Jacksonville Al to perform in the eighties and on one such visit met Rick and Greg. Rick worked at the campus radio station at Jacksonville State and would invite Kevin and his band to come and be on his show. Afterwards they would all head out to the venue and Kevin’s band would play while Rick and Greg would raid the refreshments in the dressing room. Neither Kevin or the Burgesses were living a life that honored God at the time but little did they know God had a plan. Years later Kevin received a call from Rick and the friendship was reunited. Kevin would drive to Gadsden to be a part of Rick’s newest adventure, The Rick and Bubba show. There, Kevin met Bill Bubba Bussey and Calvin Speedy Wilburn. All crammed in a small room with Kevin’s keyboard in his lap, they would cut up and sing and Kevin would talk about Jesus. Over the years Rick and Bubba have become a household name and the friendship between Kevin and the show has grown into a relationship centered around making Jesus Christ known. All of these guys and their families have been radically transformed by the power of Jesus Christ. It hasn’t always been an easy journey. God has allowed tragedy to be a part of the story line for the show. However tragedy turns to triumph as the story of Bronner Burgess is used by God to lead thousands to Christ and countless to find peace through very difficult circumstances. Kevin Derryberry Ministries is honored to be a part of what God is doing through the Rick and Bubba Show. Rick and Bubba and gang appear at Kevin’s annual Golf Classic every year and Kevin appears often on the Rick and Bubba show. Iron sharpens iron with these guys. All lifting each other up in prayer and holding each other accountable to continue the work that Christ has began in them. It’s a race to the finish, to share the gospel of Jesus Christ bringing hope to listeners and concert goers. Kevin loves how Rick always encourages him to FINISH STRONG.
Proverbs 27:17 As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.
Kevin will always have a place in history with the Rick and Bubba by adding to the rick and bubba dictionary: Pulling a Derryberry
– Bringing something to the table that is not yet available.
